Frequently Asked questions

What are your opening times?

The shop is open 12-6pm, Wednesday to Saturday. Closed Sunday-Tuesday.

When is the next Online update?

We make batches of work specially for sale online around four times a year. To be notified when one is coming up you can join the mailing list at the bottom of the page.

Do you take comissions?

Yes! I often make work to order and can even take orders via email then post them to you. You can look through my Instagram for examples of my work and my glazes. If you’d like a set of mugs, a bigger vase than is available or a personalised item get in touch via email or on Instagram and if it’s something I can do I can talk you through placing an order. If you live locally, the shop is full of great examples of what I can make so feel free to drop by for a chat if you have something in mind. Commissions take 3-4 weeks and may need to be paid in advance if they’re personalised or for posting.

Do you sell Wholesale?

Since opening the shop I only sell in my shop or online.

Do you run Classes?

Yes! We run beginners and improvers classes in 5 week blocks from March to September each year. We have 18 spaces in each block and you can get all the details on our ‘classes’ page. I also send out the course dates exclusively to our mailing list so I recommend joining that to get first dibs on spaces.

Kiln Hire

We’re a small private studio so it’s just my space with two assistants. Unfortunately this means I don’t rent out studio space or kiln hire. In Glasgow I can recommend Studio Mama, Surface Ceramics, and Glasgow Ceramic Studios if you’re looking for workshop access.

Work Experience

I regularly get approached by people interesting in volunteering. If you are interested in gaining some skills while offering your time and effort you can get in touch by email. Please provide as much detail as possible about your previous experience and how you might benefit from a short term placement here. Priority will be given to those trying to build a career in Craft or Pottery where this would help them in an impactful way.

Any Advice for starting out?

As university courses get pulled it’s getting harder to study ceramics, however, there are many routes into the craft. The best courses still going include Clay College, the degree course at Cardiff Metropolitan, and the MA at UCLAN in Lancashire.
I am mostly self-taught and after taking classes for 6 months I took on a studio space in a shared workshop where I was taught studio craft and throwing. I highly recommend joining a larger studio for a few years to hone your skills and learn from other potters. You can look up the Adopt a Potter scheme to try to find a mentor as well as looking up courses run by local councils and colleges. Apply for internships through the Craft Scotland and Creative Scotland Opportunities websites. Sign up to Ceramic Review magazine as there are sometimes opportunities in there, plus it’s a great way to get up to speed with the wider ceramics world. You can also join the Scottish Potters Association or the Craft Potters Association - if you haven’t enough experience to join it’s also a great way to find potters who may take you on to learn. For glaze chemistry, once you have been making for a few years, I highly recommend the Ceramic Materials Workshop online course. Be prepared to work hard, have patience and enjoy it!
